4-H in Franklin County What is "4-H"? How do I get involved? "4-H" is a Cornell Cooperative Extension educational outreach program. The 4-H Program offers youth between the ages of 5-19 the opportunities to gain hands-on knowledge in many areas. Animal Science, Clothing Construction, Camping and outdoor programs, Job Skills, Public Speaking, Arts and Crafts, Recycling, Teen programs, Woodworking, and Nature Conservation to mention just a few! The 4-H Motto is "To Make the Best Better". To that end, programs are designed to promote decision making, lifelong learning, social skills, communication skills, practical technical skills, positive self-image, citizenship, leadership, career exploration, time management, interaction with adults, and strengthening family ties. What do the "4-H's" stand for? The first "H" is for "Head" I pledge my head to clearer thinking, The second "H" is for "Heart" I pledge my heart to greater loyalty, The third "H" is for "Hands" I pledge my hands to larger service, The fourth "H" is for "Health" and my health for better living for my club, my community, my country, and my world. Where is "Franklin County"? Franklin County is located in beautiful "upstate" New York. It's northernmost border is with Canada and the south section of the county includes part of the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. Agriculture and tourism are the major industries for the region..
